Decisions

posted by kry in everyday life, quotes

Today I came across this, and I thought of sharing part of it here:

Once there was a young man who asked an old master, “How do I succeed in life?”

The master replied, “Wisdom”.

Then the young man said, “How do I gain wisdom?”

“By making the right decisions,” said the old man.

The young man persisted, “How do I learn to make the right decisions?”

“Experience!” answered the master.

“How do I gain experience?” inquired the young man.

“By making wrong decisions!” exclaimed the Master.

Just when I thought that nice and warm weather was here to stay…today I woke up and found grey weather and a very very windy day ahead. According to the local weather website,

The Southeast wind will be strong over the Maltese Islands and locally very strong to gale force 8 over the exposed areas.

Oh well..seems like it’s not yet time to put away all Winter clothes after all! At least last weekend we had great weather though, especially on Saturday! :)

Here’s an interesting concept I just read about on Londonist - Choose What You Read.

This initiative is being encouraged by a not for profit organisation, and they loan books out and only ask that people return them when they’re done, so they can be read again by someone else. They encourage readers to add their name to the front of each book to build up a community of bibliophiles - like Bookcrossing, for commuters.

Whilst reading the news this morning, I came across this article about how a pub owner has started to accept goods and services in exchange for beers, hoping to attract customers who are struggling during the credit crunch. Who would have thought that such an idea would work? Apparently it did though!

Lazy blogger

posted by kry in everyday life

Unfortunately, I have realised that I have become a lazy blogger! :( Whereas before I used to post links or stuff I come across, nearly every day, now I am going through a phase where I barely post something once in a month! Thing is sometimes I go through phases where I can’t seem to find something interesting to say, or to post about. Could be that I am going through a bad phase in my life, where I don’t seem to be motivated at all! I can’t seem to enjoy doing the things I enjoyed doing up to a year ago, before I started working! I am stuck in work routine! I can’t read a whole book - I start reading the first chapter and leave the book on the shelve for months! I lost interest in the TV series, which I so enjoyed watching!

The only thing I enjoy doing is going out for long walks during my lunch break and in the evening - it helps me relax and enjoy the nice weather and the blossoming flowers :)

I need to get back on track..and fast!

FlyLady

posted by kry in everyday life, links, tips, websites

Today I discovered the FlyLady website. I had heard about the FlyLady before on friends’ blogs, but I never really went and looked up what it was exactly. Today I accidentally came across it, and started reading - it’s got lots of tips about decluttering, cleaning and organising life in general :) Have a look here

I just started reading this :)

Finally I found the motivation to start reading again! In the past months, I have been buying books, and getting books from the library, only to leave them there, or start reading the first chapter and stop reading! I don’t know what got into me - I used to really enjoy reading and there were times when I even stayed up at night to finish reading a book! Since summer, however, I was going through this phase where I didn’t have much motivation to read. Since last week, I decided that I really needed to make an effort, and start reading again, even if only a few pages a day.

So I started (again..since I had only read a couple of pages months ago) reading a very interesting book - Watching the English, written by Kate Fox. Here’s a description:

In Watching The English anthropologist Kate Fox takes a revealing look at the quirks, habits and foibles of the English people. She puts the English national character under her anthropological microscope, and finds a strange and fascinating culture, governed by complex sets of unspoken rules and byzantine codes of behaviour. The rules of weather-speak. The ironicgnome rule. The reflex apology rule. The paranoid-pantomime rule. Class indicators and class anxiety tests. The money-talk taboo and many more…Through a mixture of anthropological analysis and her own unorthodox experiments (using herself as a reluctant guinea-pig), Kate Fox discovers what these unwritten behaviour codes tell us about Englishness.

I am still half way through the book, but until now it has proved to be a very interesting book, ideal as light reading..nothing complicated..but can be funny at times, and informative at the same time :)

After nearly a month, I’m back! It’s been such a long time since I last posted!

At the end of January I finally bought the wedding dress :) In the end, I didn’t buy the dress I mentioned in my earlier post (the dress I saw in the first shop). I bought a dress I saw in another shop and I’m really happy with my choice. Apart from the dress, we didn’t book anything else since last time. Next on the list are bookings for cars and mens’ suits. I have already started looking at souvenirs and invitations on the internet, but I will book those later on - after all there is a year left! (although here in Malta people tend to start planning weddings and booking things from 2 years in advance!).

On a negative note, last Sunday I got to know that the official photographer who took our photos at University during Graduation lost our photos!!! Now how bad is that! They have the photos they took during the ceremony, but they don’t have the studio photos (the photos I took with my parents and my boyfriend). Needless to say I am really angry and disappointed…from where am I going to get those photos now?!?! This is simply unbelievable, and I am really really angry.

Talking of photos, I know I had to post pictures of the graduation ball dress, and I also meant to post other photos throughout my previous posts, but I have problems uploading pics! I will post photos as soon as this problem gets sorted, promise! :)
