Beijing Games - the opening ceremony
posted by kry in eventsYesterday I finally managed to get out of work on time, at 1.30pm, so I was able to watch parts of the Beijing Games opening ceremony. The performances were simply amazing and breathtaking and very colourful indeed! I cannot imagine how long it took to prepare for that ceremony, and how many people were involved!
As stated in the Beijing Games official website, more than 20,000 performers from all parts of China including Hong Kong, Macao and Chinese Taipei, regaled audience members with martial arts performances and artistic story telling through song and dance. On the ever-changing backdrop and accompanied by amazingly complex displays of fireworks, the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games was launched, literally, with a bang.
There is a part of the official site dedicated to the opening ceremony, with interesting info and pictures.
On a side note, this afternoon I read about a big screen which was installed in Trafalgar Square in London. This will allow visitors to the square to follow the action at the Olympic Games in Beijing, from the opening ceremony on Friday 8 August right up to the Olympic handover ceremony on Sunday 24 August, when the Mayor of London receives the Olympic flag on behalf of London and the rest of the UK.
