Protect yourself against identity theft
posted by kry in PPP, dissertation, everyday life, technology, tipsOne of the many issues which I am planning to include in my dissertation is identity theft and fraud. Identity theft occurs when someone uses your personally identifying information, like your name, Social Security number, or credit card number, without your permission, to commit fraud or other crimes. There are so many issues to discuss with regards to identity theft and fraud! Unfortunately this is the reality in today’s information age.
Just this morning I got to know about this website, lifelock, where they offer a service to protect people’s identity. Such companies offering this service have come about as a response to this issue of identity theft and fraud. However, you don’t need to be subscribed to something similar to what this company does to have your identity protected. There are many simple ways to protect your identity, including the following:
- Protect your Social Security number
- Treat your trash and mail carefully
- Be on guard when using the Internet
- Select intricate passwords
- Verify sources before sharing information
- Safeguard your purse and wallet
- Store information in secure locations
