A couple of days ago I wrote a post about CCTV cameras, and whether these are really reducing crime or not. I also posted a link to a particular article about this topic, which was about CCTV cameras in neighbourhoods. However, one cannot not mention the use of video surveillance in shops. The use of security cameras are increasingly used by shops and businesses to detect theft and to catch shoplifters.

Such equipment is sold by many shops nowadays, including online businesses, such as IT Planet, who sell various security equipment, amongst other equipment and accessories.

Whilst doing research, I also came across articles where they discussed the fact that in the UK it was found that criminal gangs were installing pinhole cameras in the ceilings of shops, garages and supermarkets to steal customers’ card details and ship them abroad. Because the stolen details cannot be used in countries with chip and PIN, gangs transfer them abroad to countries where the system is not in use - with the US as the number one destination.

The more research I carry out, the more interesting facts I am discovering! I think 10,000 words is not enough to discuss all that I am finding out!
