This year we celebrated NYE in a different way than usual. In previous years, we used to watch the countdown for the new year on TV. However, this year we decided to head down to Valletta. Since Malta adopted the Euro as its currency at midnight of the New Year, there were various activities going on in Valletta to mark this special event.

We decided to attend the concert given by the National Orchestra at the Mediterranean Conference Centre- ‘The National Orchestra Goes Pop’, which we enjoyed so much! Although we waited in the queue for around 45 minutes in the rain, it was really worth it! We found good seats, and watched the whole performance from beginning to end.

Afterwards we watched a performance given by an Italian band at the same venue. At around 11.30pm we headed to the Upper Barracca to watch the fireworks.

Surely a NYE not to be forgotten :)

    Hello

Sounds like a great way to see the new year in (apart from queing in the rain)! Like your pics.

I watched the fireworks from The Strand and I loved them too! I heard that the National Orchestra going pop was a huge success! How nice :)

Yes it was great! I had never been to a concert by the National Orchestra before, but I just loved it, as did everyone else who was present. You could tell that people enjoyed it from their reactions..everyone kept saying that they didn’t want the concert to end!:)

I watched the fireworks from my office, which happens to be high up on the Strand … so it was like having a front row seat :) … but I have to admit that I really wish I was able to make it to Valletta that night … I had been looking forward to it for a whole month, that is until my roster came out :/

Oh well, hopefully we won’t have to wait until our next currency change to have such celebrations organised on nye!
