Identity Theft is the illegal use of another individual’s identity. The people behind identity theft find out personal details and may use them to open bank accounts, apply for credit cards, loans, benefits and documents such as passports and driving licenses in another person’s name. ID fraud is a serious crime, which may have serious consequences.
Yesterday I was reading an article on skynews, where it was discovered that criminal gangs are installing pinhole cameras in the ceilings of shops, garages and supermarkets to steal customers’ card details.
Although technological innovations and technological advancements have helped a lot to improve our way of living and our lifestyle, it has also brought with it a new wave of criminality. One could say that vast amounts of data and personal information are moving into the wrong hands and ordinary citizens may be losing control of the information about them that is being made available to anyone - which means that it could be ending up in the hands of criminals. In a way, it can be said that people may be sacrificing their privacy for the sake of convenience.
