The Gherkin

posted by kry in London, UK, buildings

I just found an interesting feature on The Guardian, about the building known as the Gherkin in London, which has prompted me to do some research to find out more about it.

This building was completed in 2004 and was built instead of the Baltic Exchange Building which was damaged by an IRA bomb back in 1992.

Whilst doing some research about it on the internet, I managed to find an article in the BBC website dated August 2000 when the plans for this building were approved. The planning application for this building raised a number of issues from organisations who were against this development.
