According to an article I was reading this afternoon on The Business Week website, Wal-Mart has launched an initiative, in partnership with the Carbon Disclosure Project (CDP), which is a non profit organisation whose aim is to create a relationship between shareholders and corporations regarding the implications for shareholder value and commercial operations presented by climate change and whose goal is to facilitate a dialogue, supported by quality information, from which a rational response to climate change will emerge.
The aim of this initiative is to measure suppliers’ energy use in the process of making products , throughout the supply chain up to the distribution process, in order to try and reduce the amount of greenhouse gas emissions.
The article also outlines other environmentally-friendly initiatives by this company, as well as analyses this campaign from various aspects - both from the positive and the sceptic point of views.
