After the manufacturer of chocolate bars such as Mars, Snickers, Maltesers, Milky way, Bounty, Twix and Galaxy announced that it was to change its ingredients from a vegetarian source to one with traces of an animal enzyme, more than 6000 people complained and a number of MPs signed a petition. The Vegetarian Society also protested on behalf of vegetarians in the UK.
After all this, Masterfoods, the manufacturer of these chocolate bars, apologised to vegetarians.
Goes to show that the customer has a lot of influence on business operations, and pressure groups can have an affect on business if not listened to. In fact, in this case, the company decided to listen to customers’ views and reverse its decision.
