Reflections through Cyberspace

This weekend we managed to watch three movies - Night at the Museum, The Pursuit of Happyness and The Prestige.

Night at the Museum (2006) is based on a children’s book. It is about a man (Ben Stiller) who is a divorced father and has to find a job. His problem is that he can’t keep a job for a long time. One day he finds a job as night guard at the Museum of Natural History. On his first night of duty, he discovers that at night in the museum, due to a curse, the exhibits come to life. After his first night of duty where he discovers what goes on at night, he nearly quits, but decides to stay. He starts studying the history of the events and people portrayed at the museum so that he can better know how to react and how to behave with the exhibits once they come to life at night.

The Pursuit of Happyness (2006) is based on the true story of Chris Gardner. The movie is about his life and how he has struggled, together with his son, to be successful. At first he is a salesman who struggles to make ends meet. At the same time that his girlfriend leaves him with his young son, he is shortlisted to a very competitive internship in a stockbroking company. At the same time, he has a big financial problem and ends up homeless. Together with his son, they end up sleeping in shelters for homeless people, whilst at the same time he has to study to be successful in his internship. After passing his exam, he is offered the job at the stockbroking agency and ends up being very successful. In fact he opened his own firm some years later. It is a very inspiring movie and in fact I did some research to know more about him and his life.

The Prestige (2006) is about two magicians in London who are rivals and try everything they can to steal each other’s secrets, jeopardising those around them. I found it a bit complicated and had to do some research about the story to put together all the pieces. However once I understood exactly what happened, I can say it is a very good movie in my opinion.
