This week we watched two movies - Click and The Girl in the Cafe’ - two completely different movies.
Click is about an architect (Adam Sandler) who is a workaholic who has a family but when under pressure at work, he tends to give more priority to his work. One night, when he goes to a department store to buy a remote control, he meets a guy who offers him this universal remote control which has special powers. It can pause, fast forward or rewind - basically it gives him the power to control his life. However, although at first it might look as a very useful gadget, it takes over his life and he ends up missing out on special moments in his life. In the end, he stops and thinks about it and decides what is more worthwile in life.
The Girl in the Cafe’ is a totally different movie from Click. It is about a lonely civil servant, who meets a younger girl in a cafe’. They start talking, and after a couple of dinners together he invites her to join him on a trip to Iceland - where he is preparing to take part in the G8 summit about reducing world poverty. At one point, there is a conflict between his work at the conference and his work - relationship with other ministers, and the relationship he has with her, due to her speaking out about her feelings towards the issue of world poverty, which is not what those involved in the summit want to hear.
