Just read this article in SkyNews.

It is about a new campaign, “Be Treatwise”, launched by the Biscuit, Cake, Chocolate and Confectionery Association.

Two chocolate manufacturers, Cadbury and Mars will use product labels to get a healthy lifestyle message across to their customers - giving a different viewpoint on how their products should be viewed (such as “Be treatwise, get to know your GDA (guideline daily amount)”).

They may be trying to get across a positive message regarding healthy living to their customers, but then there would be those who argue that this will lead to more chocolate consumption by people since it may make them feel less guilty when eating chocolate, due to certain messages that treats and snacks can be part of a healthy balanced diet. This is because there are people who won’t take notice of the balanced and in moderation key words.

However, in my opinion, this is a good idea since people will eat chocolate anyway - so why not include a message for a healthier lifestyle on products?

Would have been a good example to mention in one of my management exams last week as the role of marketing in reaching customers and how this may be viewed - positively or negatively.
