Just as I was studying Rule of Law this morning, I happened to read an article a few minutes ago in Sky News about an exhibition, currently being held in central London, about the weird laws which are still applicable in Britain.

A few mentioned in the article are the following:

  • beating or shaking a doormat after 8am carries a £1000 fine
  • all whales washed up on the UK coastline have to be offered to the Crown, with the tail going to the Queen to “furnish the Queen’s wardrobe with whalebone”
  • firing a cannon close to someone’s house is punishable with a £200 fine
  • it is illegal to wear armour in Parliament

I guess it would be interesting to see what other weird laws are still in force today..centuries later :)

What would really be interesting is reading about similar laws that apply in the Maltese territory. There must be a couple of weird ones among the lot!

You’re right:) That would be really interesting if anyone could be able to find any similar laws:)
