This week I finally found some time to catch up with reading
I decided to read one of the library books I got (which are already long overdue..still have to find the time to take them back!). It’s a novel by Joanna Trollope - Girl from the South. I had already read another book by the same author, Other People’s Children, which I had enjoyed reading. And this one I enjoyed no less. I hope I’ll find more books by the same author next time I go to the library.

Gillon - red-haired, intelligent, vulnerable - comes to London to escape from the demands of her wealthy, conventional, socially superior family in Charleston, South Carolina. An art historian, she has a chance meeting with Tilly, whose long-term boyfriend Henry is a wildlife photographer who is finding it hard to commit. Before long Gillon has moved into their flat, replacing Henry’s old mate William, William’s on-off-girlfriend Susie, and a lots of mess and disorganisation. Things are changing, and Tilly finds it difficult to accept that her dreams of settling down with Henry are receding further into the distance, especially when Henry announces that he is going to South Carolina to photograph the abundant wildlife of the area. There, Henry is wholly seduced by the charms of Charleston, by Gillon’s family, and by the old patrician way of life which presents itself. The rules seem to be changing, the time passing by, and the future is becoming less and less certain…
This week I went to hire the graduation gown. I had been meaning to go for some time, but always kept postponing it since I believed that it’s still early (89 days left according to my Facebook countdown). However on Wednesday my friend told me that she started calling shops to check about them, and they told her that people had started hiring the gown since June!! I panicked a bit, so on Thursday after work I decided to go and have a look around. In the end I only went to one place, and hired it from there. I didn’t feel like going to many places in that heat! Why can’t they create a system where you can hire the gown online? You just select your size, and that’s it..it would have been much easier and more convenient
I’m so glad that it’s finally the weekend…and also a long weekend since on Monday it’s a holiday here in Malta
Yesterday night I went out for a meal with my bf’s cousins, which was great since it had been a long time since we last met! There was also a cousin who is here on holiday from the UK, so it was a nice get together
I took my camera with me, but (knowing my luck!) it switched off after just one pic - the batteries had run out!! lol However the others are going to send me the pics they took with their cameras at least
This morning I made sure I put the batteries on charge, and it’s a lesson for next time - always take spare batteries
Tonight we are going to the football ground, as we bought tickets to watch Malta-Portugal football match. I hope I enjoy it, as I’m not a big football fan, and it’s also my first time that I’m going to watch a match! Will try to take some pics to show you here (I’ll make sure that I take extra batteries tonight though
)
This weekend it’s also ‘festa’ weekend where I’m currently living, so I’ll be going there as well. Will upload some pics if I manage to take some of the fireworks (I’ll try!).
Packed weekend, but will try to relax a lot as well
Have a nice weekend everyone!
When I was in Gozo last week, we went to Arcadia in Rabat, and on one of the floors there is a big shop selling home-related items. I was going through the mugs they had. I wanted to buy a new mug to take with me to work (I love mugs) and my friend’s relative from Australia who was with us suggested that I buy this particular mug since it had written on it: Busy Bee (which is how I should be at work
). So I ended up buying it! This week I took it to work and took some pics of it. Now I’ll remember our day trip to Gozo whenever I have some hot chocolate in Winter
This morning I bought the tickets to go to Ta Qali Stadium next Saturday, for the football game Malta - Portugal, which is a 2010 FIFA World Cup South Africa qualification match. I’m not a football fan, and I rarely watch parts of a football game on TV, but I decided to go for the first time to watch a football game at the Stadium
It will serve as a different night out after all - a different way to spend a Saturday evening
It’s already been a week since I last updated my blog. Phew this week went by so quickly! Actually thinking about it, this year is going by so fast! We’ll be starting September tomorrow, already!
Things at work have been ok this week, a bit better than the week before at least! For once, there weren’t a lot of meetings scheduled, so things were a bit quiet, which gave me time to do some more filing (yes, I’m still going through papers and doing filing..I’ve been doing this for the past 3 months since I started working - going through papers and documents from last year and the year before and sorting them out!)
This week I was told that I will be responsible for doing the website for our department, so I enrolled myself in the next tutorial class, to be held in a couple of weeks’ time, where we’ll get an overview on how to build the website, and also get help where needed. I’ve already downloaded the manual - maybe I’ll have some time to skim through it some time next week, before I attend the tutorial session. From what I gathered, it will not be very difficult to build the website though at least, since they are using a Content Management System, so it should be ok I guess (I hope!).
Apart from this course on how to build the website, I should be attending some more courses in the coming weeks, one of which will be business writing. Should be interesting, and it will be a break from everyday routine!
We have started planning our holiday to Barcelona, and up to now we have these places listed in our ‘to visit’ list:
- PortAventura
- Guell Park
- Magic Fountain
- Aquarium
- Sagrada Familia
- Spanish Village
- Barcelona FC football ground
- Las Ramblas
- La Boqueria
- the Gothic “barrio”
I hope we manage to visit all these places, and possibly more, in the 5 days we will be spending in Barcelona
Any other places you recommend?
As I mentioned on Friday, yesterday I went to Gozo with my friend and her relative from Australia. We had so much fun
It had already been over a year since I last was over in Gozo! We went early in the morning, with the 7.30 am ferry, and came back to Malta with the 3.45 pm ferry. We could have stayed longer, and visited other places, but we were all very tired ’cause it was so hot!
I drove around, and we went to various places, including Rabat, Cittadella, Qala, Hondoq ir-Rummien, Marsalforn, Qbajjar, San Lawrenz, Dwejra and Ta’ Pinu. It was a perfect way to spend a Saturday
At times, one needs to just get away from everyday routine and do something different
I will upload some pics later on.
Finally..it’s the weekend again
Phew..it’s been such a difficult week! Going back to work after a very long weekend was a nightmare!
At least now it’s Friday, so I’ve got another 2 days off before going back to work.
Tomorrow I’m off to Gozo with my friend and her relative from Australia. I’m really looking forward to spend the day in Gozo - doing something different is always good. We decided to go early in the morning, so that we will be back to Malta in the afternoon. We have planned to take the 7.30 ferry. I’m living quite close to Cirkewwa, which is good ’cause I don’t have to drive a long way, since I’ll be driving in Gozo. Will definately post some pics after I come back
